Mentorship with
Grand River Glassworks
In Fall 2022, I got a Professional Development Grant from the Canadian Council for the Arts to study fused and cast glass techniques with Laurie Spieker at Grand River Glassworks, in Waterloo. I have been working with Laurie in her studio most weeks since then, learning and experimenting.
Glass is the perfect medium to explore layers of imagery and meaning, which I have been doing in oil painting for years. I have been mixing transparency and opacity, to get different affects with light and cast shadows. Continuing themes include emptiness inside and surrounding the human self, and the connection of self and other.
