Fragmentary, Momentary
Grad School and Beyond,
2016-2018
During my MFA studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, I continued to mix nature and figural imagery to explore the experience of self. I expanded into new media including ceramics, photography, and oil paint. Classes in Buddhist and Western philosophy influenced the concepts in my art.
These images are fragmented to evoke my varying and often confused feelings about where I begin and end. The birds represent an often brief connection to the natural world along with certainty of my own position in it. I used balanced and unbalanced figures to further these ideas of stability versus instability and/or release.
